The (Double) Snap
Since we have essentially lived two full days in the single day of July 1, seems only fair to give us a double snap for this double day.
Our final snack and final goodbye to the ever convenient, fresh, ubiquitous, favorite food–onigiri (this is my new found delicious fav, konbu in a perfectly triangular ball of rice in a crisp seaweed wrapper).
And our view from the walkway to our final baggage claim this evening. The flag which reminds me Japan is not the only land of the rising sun.
To remember T downing two onigiri as our plane sat on the runway in Tokyo. Every last grain of rice, spec of salmon and crunch of nori. Her favorite food and perhaps her last for quite some time.
And then her almost equal elation about the cilantro rice, tortilla and guacamole of her Stateside dinner this evening. She’s going to be just fine.
A reminder that we left so much of ourselves in our home in Japan. And that abundantly more than we could ask or imagine is waiting in store in our home in the States.
We look back with full hearts and deep gratitude. We look forward with excited anticipation for what is in store.
